SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A sanitation worker in Georgia has been sentenced to jail for starting work too early.

WSBTV reports Kevin McGill, 48, works for the city of Sandy Springs, which has a city ordinance that says trash can only be collected between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. so residents aren’t woken up.

But McGill recently began picking up trash at 5 a.m. He was cited and sentenced to 30 days in jail.

McGill reportedly was only on the job three months before the incident happened. The sentence will be served on weekends.

A city official said jail time is the only solution to the problem of trash being picked up earlier than 7 a.m.
