LAKELAND — A 27-year-old woman walked in front of a train while texting on her cell phone, Lakeland police said.

Sheena Keynna Miller appeared to be texting Monday afternoon as she walked around the crossing gates and into the path of a passing freight train in Lakeland.

Lakeland police Sgt. Gary Gross told the Ledger of Lakeland the woman "wasn't paying attention" when she was hit by the train in the 200 block of N. Kentucky Avenue.

Miller told police she did not hear the train horn and did not see the crossing arms down when she crossed.

Miller was clipped by the train and tossed into the air. She suffered a compound fracture to her right arm and her right leg was also injured, Gross said..

Miller was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center but no additional information was available about her condition.

CSX spokeswoman Kristin Seay said the train had two locomotives and was carrying consumer goods from Winter Haven to Jacksonville. Two Amtrak trains were delayed during the investigation.
