For the past couple of years, enlarging one's rear has become a huge business.
Lisa Reisler, the co-inventor of Booty Pop padded panties (pictured), recently told The Hollywood Reporter:
We are now selling a pad that's 40 percent larger than when we launched, and there are tons of requests. It used to be if your husband said your booty looked big in jeans, it was an insult. Now, it's a compliment. The power of celebrities over body image is immense.
Buttock augmentation, also known as a "Brazilian butt lift," has become one of the two fastest growing cosmetic surgeries in the world, reports Science Daily. The other popular surgery is a labiaplasty, which is supposed to improve the appearance of the vagina.
These revelations appear in the March issue of "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery," the medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
"There are plenty of people that are fascinated by watching Kim Kardashian or Nicki Minaj or some of these women who have larger bottoms, and they strive for that," Dr. Michael Edwards, president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, told Live Science.
Butt enlargements have increased by 86 percent since 2013, according to Dr. Edwards.
"The biggest jump percentage is in butt enlargements," Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Lawrence Koplin told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a significant monetary surgery now."
Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gabriel Chiu explained that women are having fat removed from other parts of their bodies and having it injected into their buttocks. Dr. Chiu added that artifical implants are rarely used anymore.
The surgery cost starts at $9,500.
