30 Sets Of Burned Clothing Found In Olin Turville Park

MADISON, Wis. -- Was it an unregistered art exhibit, a practical joke or a possible documented rapture occurrence? Those are the questions facing the Madison Police Department after they found 30 sets of burned clothing in Olin Turville Park on Sunday.

An officer said he was called to the top of the biggest hill at Olin Turville Park on Sunday about 4:30 p.m., after a person reported multiple sets of burned clothes were found. There were about 30 sets of clothes found, police said. Men's clothes, women's clothes, complete with undergarments and shoes, were laid out as if the people wearing them had been lying on their backs and vanished, leaving all their clothing behind. There were wrist watches where arms should have been and sets of keys in pockets, authorities said.

"I observed that all outfits were perfectly laid out as if the people wearing them had met with some sort of forceful and immediate action," wrote the responding officer in his report. The officer also noted all clothing "had varying levels of what appeared to be burns or melting, as if exposed to some sort of intense heat source."

More mystifying to investigators was the fact that the material goods were spread out, in circular fashion, around a black cylinder that was emitting a strobe-type white light toward the skies.

"I cautiously examined the beacon of light closer and determined that it had been constructed out of a 5-gallon pail and what appeared to be a light fixture type of top," said the officer.

As he examined the probe, the officer said he discovered two independent light sources: a heavy-duty flash light and a bicycle light, police said. The officer said he also found a similar object in each of the pants pockets.

"I donned a pair of protective gloves and examined some of the clothing and discovered that several pockets in the outfits all contained a similar type of business or calling card. The top of each had a round circle, and directly beneath that was a large vessel that appeared to be an ark-type craft. Under the ark were several vertical lines that emanated downward away from the bottom of the craft," the officer said.

Police said the strange finding prompted speculation over whether what happened at the site was linked to the rapture prognostication that on worldwide judgment day, Jesus Christ would take believers to heaven. A prediction by a popular minister said the event would happen last weekend, specifically on Sunday. The claims were popularized throughout the media in the days leading up to the weekend.

Police said they remain unsure about what happened at the site.

Even in cases of alleged spontaneous combustion, there's dna or ash and bone fragments left within the clothes.
