The crowdfunding website GoFundMe confirmed Wednesday that it had removed a fundraising page in support of a white South Carolina ex-police officer charged with murder following allegations that he fatally shot an unarmed black man.

North Charleston Patrolman Michael Slager was charged with murder Tuesday after disturbing video surfaced appearing to show the fatal shooting, which occurred after a traffic stop on Saturday. The video appeared to show Slager firing eight shots at 50-year-old Walter Scott's back as Scott fled.

Authorities said Wednesday in a press conference that Slager had been fired from his job.

A Twitter user going by the handle @DefendMichaelS tweeted early Wednesday that GoFundMe had rejected a campaign to support the officer. The tweet linked to a fundraiser for Slager on Indiegogo, another crowdfunding platform, that was still live:

GoFundMe's public relations manager, Kelsea Little, confirmed to TPM in an email that the fundraiser was removed because it violated the crowdfunding platform's terms and conditions. Little did not comment on how the campaign violated those terms.

However, GoFundMe's terms and conditions page states that "campaigns in defense of formal charges of heinous crimes, including violent, hateful, or sexual acts" are prohibited.

Little also did not disclose how long the campaign was live on GoFundMe's website in her email to TPM, citing privacy concerns.

Last fall, two separate fundraising campaigns on GoFundMe raised more than $400,000 combined for Darren Wilson, the white ex-police officer who ultimately was not indicted in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. Both fundraisers were abruptly shut down by their organizers.

Asked why the fundraiser in support of Slager was removed while the campaigns in support of Wilson were not, Little told TPM: "The campaigns set up for Officer Darren Wilson were not in violation of our Terms & Conditions, and so they were not removed."

The "Michael T. Slager Support Fund" page on Indiegogo was still live as of Wednesday afternoon and had raised just $60 of its $5,000 goal.

 the campaign for Ocifer Wilson was helped along with money from the West Florissant project, when you help along the causes of big money, you dont get convicted. or even indicted. even if you murder someone in cold blood in the middle of the street. if you're protected class and you do something that furthers the goals of the big big money, you are automatically 100% innocent.

go too far off the script and sorry pal we're not sticking our necks out to save you, we lie so often we can just do it with complete reckless abandon just yet. not enough police state for that just yet.

oh ok, so that makes it ok that the cop murdered him and fabricated evidence? :slap:

All Im saying is the jury is still out... And as we learned with the Zimmerman case, things arent always as they appear..

 sorry muddy, but "this guy committed a crime before, we must be extra careful so we can get home to our families" is a damned slippery slope.

in fact, if the asshole hadn't planted the throwdown, this would probably be found perfectly legal by a prosecutor...oh, I mean grand jury directed by the prosecutor to come up with the correct conclusion...

he'd be treated no differently than the assholes who choked out Garner, or the fuggin thug who shot Brown.

What did he actually throw down? The perps gun or a tazer?

FBD

perp did not have anything at all on him. officer dropped his tazer, went back and picked it up, and planted it next to the body.

on video.

and that is the *only* reason he is getting charged with murder - the coverup. If he just straight up murdered him, he'd be fine and would have no indictment possible.

But why the tazer? If it was a plant, why not plant a firearm?

hey, they at least need to keep some remote semblance of consistency to their stories

like I said, get too far outside of the script and the script will no longer protect you

You sure that's a firearm?

already shown to be the taser that he attempted to say the guy tried taking from him.

So again.. Why drop a taser? Your taser.. With your finger prints clearly on it.. Im not so sure its a plant..

What would the point be of bringing it over and dropping it next to a dead person that is handcuffed?

 Because that's what a throwdown is. Its a cop's "get out of murder, free" card. Only this guy got filmed planting it, and like I said before, that is the one and only reason he is in any sort of trouble over this whatsoever.

Yall know damned well it'd be 2 months paid leave then 6-12 behind a desk if it were any other way.
