A Phoenix woman arrested Monday for reportedly injuring six people and killing a 5-year-old child in a car crash last year, told police that “s--t happens” when she was informed of the child’s death.
Aaronessa Rebecca Keaton, 24, was booked into Glendale City Jail due to a Feb. 28, 2014, accident in which police say that she veered into oncoming traffic and side-swiped a car in the left-turn lane, causing a three-vehicle collision.
Keaton, who was pregnant and on probation due to drug possession charges at the time of the incident, then continued northbound and collided with a 2007 Nissan Frontier, causing serious injuries to everyone involved, reports AZ Central.
A total of seven people were injured, including two children. One of the children was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Phoenix Children's Hospital, and the other child suffered various injuries and fractures.
According to KPHO, Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis claims that toxicology tests found that Keaton and her child had Benzodiazepines and THC in their system at the time of the collision. Keaton was rushed to the hospital as well and eventually received a C-section.
Charges were filed by Phoenix police in January and the warrant for Keaton’s arrest was finally issued in late February. She was arrested on Monday by Glendale Police at a traffic stop under suspicions of manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment.
