We've seen some odd fads in our time, but this must be the strangest.

Women across Japan are wearing ribbons below their breasts in a bid to increase the prominence of their cleavage.

The craze is based on Anime cartoon character Hestia, who stars in the new show 'Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?', and sees women imitate the busty character.

Hestia has become a major hit with 'cosplayers' - super fans who imitate their favourite fictional characters by donning fancy dress.

The first episode of the show was broadcast last week.

Since then, fans of the show have been widely sharing their efforts on Twitter.

One cosplayer wrote on social media that she had tried the ribbon enhancement trick, but it did not work.

Posting on Twitter, she wrote: "Would a ribbon like Hestia’s actually give me any uplift? Result: Not in the slightest.

"Conclusion: It just makes it hard to move, and the ribbon is cutting into my arms."

However others are more pleased with their efforts.

One man even managed to get his wife to try the fancy dress enhancement.

He wrote on Twitter, alongside an image of his wife imitating the character: "I got my wife to do the Hestia trick for me."
