ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. - A Port St. Lucie woman is facing a child abuse charge after police say she drove down her street with her 13-year-old son clinging to her car hood.
Officials say the teen was upset that his mother, Bridget Olinda Garcia, took his phone away and was leaving him home alone.
After a brief altercation between the mother and son, she put her other three children in her car and attempted to leave the residence, according to police.
As she was backing out of the driveway, police say the boy jumped on the hood of the car.
According to police, Garcia continued to back up approximately 200 feet with the child on the hood, put the car in drive, then drove another 200 feet with her son on the hood.
When the car stopped, the boy fell off and injured his hip, right knee and foot.
The boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.
Garcia was arrested and booked into the St. Lucie County Jail.
