China's Ministry of Culture recently called for an end to the practice of hiring strippers for funerals.
The goal of hiring strippers is to increase the number of mourners who attend the funeral service, which will supposedly bring good luck to the deceased, noted the Wall Street Journal.
The Ministry of Culture said in a statement, "From time to time, ‘stripteases’ and other illegal performances have occurred in the countryside," reported AFP.
Chinese authorities will "promptly investigate and punish" companies and individuals responsible for the strip shows, which "disrupt the order of the rural cultural market and corrupt the social atmosphere," the Ministry of Culture added.
The practice of strippers at funerals also happens in Taiwan, according to IO9.com. A documentary entitled, "Dancing for the Dead: Funeral Strippers in Taiwan," filmed some of these bizarre performances (picture above, videos below) in 2011.
