MILLIKEN - The Hispanic owners of a barbecue restaurant in Milliken say they plan to host a "White Appreciation Day" next month.

What started as a joke is now on the calendar. Edgar Antillon and Miguel Jimenez recently purchased Rubbin Buttz BBQ on Broad Street. On June 11, they plan to offer a 10 percent discount to all white customers and no one else.

"We have a whole month for Black History Month," Antillon said. "We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans."

The men expect they might receive backlash, and say they realize there's a history of racism in the America.

"It's a perpetuation of racism," Weld County civil rights activist and community organizer Ricardo Romero said. "It's wrong. If you're going to give a discount, give it to the whole community."

There could be legal repercussions as well, according to Jennifer McPherson of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.

"If someone felt like they were being discriminated against, they could come to the civil rights division and file a complaint in our office, and we would investigate that," McPherson said.

Antillon says the discount isn't meant to discriminate, but instead bring people together. He added that he has been the target of racism in the past. He hopes opening up the discussion will prompt others to think differently about race.

"We're all American, whether you came from a different country or you were born here," Antillon said. "We're all American."

Antillon said he would consider offering a discount to other racial groups, but said it's unlikely to actually happen.

I actually think this is pretty cool, especially since the restaurant is owned by someone of Mexican heritage. And anyone that isn't white that claims they are being 'discriminated' against on that one day should be taken out and publicly beaten. I am so sick of minorities getting all the advantages yet they cry discrimination at the drop of a hat if they feel they are being slighted in the least.

MILLIKEN - The restaurant in Milliken that gained national attention after a 9NEWS story about it's idea for a "White Appreciation Day" was evacuated Friday due to a bomb threat.

The Hispanic owner of Rubbin Buttz BBQ, Edgar Antillion, says they received numerous threats Friday.

The restaurant hung a sign reading "White Appreciation Day! June 11th. Because all Americans should be celebrated!!" It plans on giving white customers a 10 percent discount.

Antillon, who was born to Mexican parents, pointed to Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month.

Ricardo Romero, a civil rights activist in northern Colorado, called the plan "a perpetuation of racism." Jennifer McPherson with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies says people who believe they are discriminated against can file a complaint with the civil rights division.

I support his choice to have the day, I don't think offering the discount is a good idea though.

Probably correct.

Either way, it doesn't warrant threats of violence, nor accusations of racism.
