LONGMONT, Colo. - After noticing a drunk driving suspect who appeared to be intoxicated in court, an off-duty Boulder Sheriff's Deputy reported seeing the suspect swerving as she drove to a liquor store during a court recess.

The off-duty deputy called it in and two Longmont police officers were dispatched to the area, according to an arrest report. One of the officers followed the suspect's blue Toyota sedan as it left Westview Liquors on Main Street in Longmont.

As the officer followed, the arrest document indicates she nearly hit a curb while turning from 17th Avenue onto Main Street. He also reported that she was weaving in her lane. That officer activated his lights and siren.

The second officer was waiting two blocks away, and joined the short pursuit when the suspect passed.

Patricia Rotter, the suspect, pulled over into the parking lot of the County Court Annex and was asked to exit her car. Officer Mark Stewart described her speech as "slurred" and noted that she had "glassy, watery eyes."

"I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath," Stewart wrote.

Rotter failed a roadside sobriety test and was arrested. She declined to take a blood or breath test.

Following the arrest, Stewart's narrative indicates he spoke with a sergeant who recorded Rotter driving at 56 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Charges on the arrest document include DUI, speeding, unsafe lane change and failure to yield. According to the arrest report, Rotter had previous DUI arrests in June 2013 and September 2014.
