A former middle school teacher in Kentucky was sentenced to 12 years in prison after she admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old boy.
Jessica Boyers, 26, was sentenced to 10 years on Friday in Jefferson County that will run concurrent with her 12-year sentence from Oldham county, WHAS 11 reported. She must also register as a sex offender and remain on the list for life as part of her sentence.
Boyers worked at Highland Middle School in Louisville in 2013 when she had a six-week sexual relationship with the underage student.
In March, she pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual abuse of someone under the age of 14.
Boyers was arrested in April 2013 after she was found having sex with the student in her car at a local park. She resigned from her teaching position at Highland Middle School shortly after.
While the boy told investigators that Boyers was his girlfriend, she denied ever having sex with him. He claimed they had sex on multiple occasions after school and during spring break, and that he saved a condom they had used. Court documents revealed Boyers’ DNA was found on the boy.
"It's been a difficult thing, the fact is you had a 13-year-old boy who was taken advantage of by a teacher at school, that's about the biggest breach of trust one can have," James Nicholson, the victim's attorney, said.
"I can't get innocence back for this little boy and now Ms. Boyers is in prison, where she should be, by law," prosecutor Christie Foster said.
The teen has been getting therapy to help with the psychological damage and Boyers has been in sex offender treatment.
The boy’s father also filed a lawsuit against Jefferson County Public Schools.
