A high school teacher in southern Alabama allegedly had sex with two of the school’s students, according to reports.
Ashley Nelson Hall, 33, was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years, WTVY-TV reported.
Hall, a 10th and 11th grade English teacher, works at Opp High School in the small town near the Florida border, according to WSFA-TV. Opp City Schools has placed her on administrative leave, superintendent Michael Smithart told the TV station.
Local authorities began investigating the matter on Thursday after receiving a tip, Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald told the Andalusia Star News.
The Opp Police Department and the Covington County District Attorney’s Office will continue to investigate the case, the publication reported.
Hall was released from Covington County Jail on a $700,000 bail, WSFA reported. She could face up to 20 years in prison on each count of her charges if she’s found guilty, according to the Andalusia Star News.
A few acquaintances and former students of Hall took to local TV stations’ Facebook pages to defend her on Monday night.
“I know this woman and she would never do this to a student!” one user wrote on WSFA’s page.
