A zoo employee’s “racist” comment on social media about attendees sparked outrage among Chicago residents after it went viral.

The post, shared to Facebook, included a picture of the employee in her uniform and a caption that read, “Wassup y’all? At work serving these rude ass white people.” Because Brookfield Zoo, the Chicago, Illinois, zoo where the young woman works, was tagged in the post, it soon began to go viral and spark controversy.

One angry zoo attendee who shared the post called it “extremely racist” and said the employee “crossed the line.” The original post garnered more than 6,000 shares on Facebook.

“Yesterday, we became aware of the actions of a single employee which we agree are unacceptable,” Brookfield Zoo said in a statement. “This employee's statements in social media are in violation of our policies and do not reflect our institution's values. We have zero tolerance for these kinds of divisive behaviors. We treat all employment matters confidentially, but please know that we took prompt action to remedy the situation this morning.”

“We hope you continue to hold Brookfield Zoo in high regard,” the statement continued, “and not let the actions of one individual overshadow the longstanding good work of the Chicago Zoological Society.”

The controversial employee later posted a response to Facebook, saying that she knows what she is and that “racist is not one of em (sic).”

I hope u don't lose your gig for expressing your opinion

I wonder if a white person had said it, it would have been just 'expressing their opinion'? :-k

She tagged the Zoo on the photo. She should get fired in this case. That's a mile from my home by the way.

the saddest thing is the last line of the article....

listen honey, when specifically stating a color in a post that could have been made without it (at work serving these rude people) is racism 101. You had to add a color to the sentence/take your lumps

and then saying I ain't racist is kinda sad.....over and above all of the race stuff what gets me is that people just seem to have to put every thought into social media.

I'm sure Al Sharpton will run over there to her defense and sue the zoo for something.
