Sick trolls using online forum 4Chan have created a fake online challenge that could KILL internet users.

The game challenges people to hold a plastic bag over their head while breathing heavily for up to five minutes.

In doing so, those who partake are said to be forcing the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to donate £5 per minute they have a plastic bag on their head.

The ridiculous suggestion has, subsequently, caught on, with hundreds of tweets with the hashtag per hour.

In an attempt to dupe users, the original 4Chan post reads: "This might have potential.

"Go on Twitter and Facebook, start posting about the "plastic bag challenge," holding a bag over your head and breathing as long and hard as you can without passing out."

Fake challenges: Taking part in the challenge will not raise any money for charity

The anonymous troll then sickeningly adds: "Hopefully inbreds do it, pass out, suffer from asphyxiation and either die or become terminally ill with brain damage.

"Should be fun, no?"

Mocked-up WWF posters have since circulated on social media websites, adding to the 'authenticity', and a YouTube video is being shared.

Fake images purported to be celebrity endorsements have also been created and widely shared.

Lies: These fake WWF adverts are adding to the authenticity of a dangerous challenge

One user, named Nikki, even swore at a fellow Twitter user who attempted to warn her against doing the dangerous - and pointless - challenge.

She replied to his advice: "Whatever fuckboy, I'm about to save the environment".

The online challenge appears designed to mock the #CharlieCharlieChallenge which saw a "mexican demon" haunt participants.

Last year saw the rise in such games after genuine fund raisers such as the ice bucket challenege.

Worrying: This image is allegedly of Angelina Jolie doing the challenge

But more worrying online trends have since emerged, including the paracetamol challange.

Health chiefs issued an urgent warning to parents over that potentially deadly viral stunt, where youngsters are encouraged to abuse over-the-counter painkillers.

There were also concerns over the #KylieJennerChallenge earlier in the year, where teens were encouraged to share their 'enlarged' pout pictures by holding a glass over their mouths.

A number of seriously injured fans post graphic images of the results of the scary trend.

I'm sorry, if you are stupid enough to fall for this, then you get what you deserve.
