Indira Esparza, an undocumented college student, caused controversy when she unfurled a Mexican flag during her graduation ceremony on June 14 at the Thurgood Marshall College at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

Esparza, now 22, came to the U.S. with her family when she was two years old.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that Esparza endured financial problems, worries about her family being deported for violating U.S. immigration laws and societal judgment due to her Mexican citizenship.

Esparza helped found the Undocumented Student Services Center at UCSD to help other undocumented students who felt judged because of their immigration status.

Esparza received her Bachelor’s degree in political science, but plans to pursue her masters and doctorate degrees.

The Daily Caller reports, "It’s not clear how Esparza obtained funding to attend UCSD as an undergraduate or how she will finance her Master’s degree."

No, she endured judgement due to the fact that she's an illegal alien, not that she's Mexican.

We have specific programs in CA just for illegals to fund their schooling. Yet a middle class white kid will need to take on crushing debt for the same opportunity

I don't understand that at all.

Person is breaking the law just breathing air in the States, yet that happens. WTF is wrong with the authorities?

paragraph one, sentence one:

By remaining in the U.S. without authorization, they are breaking the law.

By remaining in the U.S. without authorization, they are breaking the law. However, beyond these legal realities, there is the unsettling fact that many undocumented students are really just victims of circumstances beyond their control.

They are victims

they even go for the fuckin soft term...undocumented....rather than illegal. Because that was probably too insulting to all of the criminals

I actually agree with this statement, it is not the fault of the kids that their parents brought them here. However, that doesn't mean they should be rewarded for being here.

Except that's the exception to the rule, look how many are coming over the border without parents, they will all qualify
