A prison custody officer has died after allegedly being assaulted by a prisoner at court, Scotland Yard has said.
Lorraine Barwell, 53, was attacked at Blackfriars Crown Court while escorting a prisoner to a waiting van in the courtyard.
Ms. Barwell, from Romford, north-east London, was treated at the scene by paramedics from London’s Air Ambulance service before being rushed to hospital in east London.
Scotland Yard confirmed today that Ms. Barwell, who worked for security firm Serco, had died from her injuries.
Humphrey Blake, 22, appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with grievous bodily harm over the alleged assault of Ms. Barwell.
