We’re all aware how the weather has been warming up of late, and at last it finally feels like summer has arrived.

But while most of us are enjoying the glorious sunshine and basking in the sun, spare a thought for those of us who detest this overbearing heat, and the sweat and pungent body odour that occurs as soon as the temperature goes up.

1. You don’t get the excitement

You’ve tried to understand just why everyone seems to eagerly await the arrival of the sun, you really have. But you just can’t get excited over something that causes you to sweat and not sleep properly at night.

2. Sun worshippers are the worst

There is a special level of mockery reserved for those who run out to the nearest strip of grass they can locate slathered in baby oil at the slightest hint of any form of sun. Dweebs.

3. Tanning struggles

The bizarre obsession with getting a healthy glow manifests in the minds of even the most sanest people you know. You just don’t understand why they get offended when you innocently point out that they look very lobster like as opposed to golden. Whoops.

4. Everything is sticky

For some unexplainable reason as soon as the sun comes out everything obtains a weird sticky feel to it. Everyday items such as chairs, your hair, public transport, door handles, your phone etc. all fall victim to this. Very impractical.

5. Hay fever = death sentence

As the temperature increases, so does your hay fever, along with your desire to chop off your nose. Basically if there was no hot weather then there would be no need for you to suffer with hay fever.

6. Leather seats become your enemy

There is nothing sexy about having to peel your thighs/back/arms or any other body part off from a leathery public transport seat. Not sexy, not hygienic, and it makes your skin weep with sadness.

7. Unholy sweat

Yep, nothing like sweating from places that don’t even see the light of day as soon as the temperature goes up. Ultimate awkwardness arises from leaving bum sweat patches on your seat at work, which of course co-workers will spot and judge you for.

8. The sweat stench

The hot weather causes you to ingest the scent of various forms of body odour that you weren’t even aware humans could possibly possess. Yummy.

9. The burning

10 minutes in the hot weather and suddenly your skin is screaming in agony. You’ve now turned as red as a prize winning tomato. Pass the after sun please.

10. It becomes expensive

As soon as it warms up you find yourself begrudgingly spending copious amounts on items to accommodate the weather. You still don’t understand how it is possible for sun lotion to cost the same as a bottle of wine. Hmm.

11. Clothing chaos

You don’t know what to wear anymore, and it’s obvious that this is echoed by many others around you. Whether it be all the blokes who decide that popping to the local Tesco topless is okay, or for the office worker who wore a kaftan to work. None of these things are acceptable guys.

12. Sleepless nights

You wave goodbye to a decent night’s sleep for a while, and instead you are left to experience long humid nights, and the struggle of fighting your duvet all night long.

13. Food is ruined

All of your favourite foods such as jacket potatoes, stodgy pies and toasties have now been ruined by the hot weather. You have to make do with weak substitutes like a ‘refreshing salad’. Yuck.

14. You miss being comfy and snug

More than anything you long for those cold winter nights when you wrap up warm and get nice and snug with a blanket on the sofa, instead of peeling yourself off the sofa you’re currently stuck to. Roll on winter!

I don't even turn the air on until it gets over 82°F (28°C). And that's only because my apartment sucks for airflow.

Maybe they don't have aircon because they don't need it usually? Never thought of that.

I remember chatting with Belle one night about furnaces and heaters.....she was talking about buying a little propane heater (she was in NC) and I couldn't believe her house didn't have one.

Every house in my province is built with a furnace and a basement...another thing some folks don't have or understand in other parts of the world.

I can understand the UK folks having no need for air conditioning. We have some hot weather but not enough to warrant central air or even a portable unit.

Supposed to be 31C today. That will make it uncomfortable tonight, until about midnight, then it will cool off a little.

I'd rather take clothes off to be comfortable than to put clothes on.

The UK has seen the hottest July day on record, with temperatures hitting 36.7C (98F).

The Met Office said the reading had been registered at Heathrow - breaking the previous record set in 2006.

Not hot today but humidity is still at 96% right now and been like that for over a week now.
