A man was killed after he jumped into a crocodile-infested marina, having mocked the creatures only moments before his death.
Tommie Woodward was attacked by the fearsome predators at a private marina in Texas, situated on the Sabine River.
Orange County official Rodney Price said that Woodward had ignored a sign which warned against swimming before he made his plunge.
He said: ‘He removed his shirt, removed his billfold…someone shouted a warning and he said “blank the alligators” and jumped into the water and almost immediately yelled for help.’
Speaking to KFDM, marina employee Michelle Wright recalled how she had warned Woodward against swimming in the marina, before she spotted his savaged body floating in the water.
‘I saw his body floating face down,’ she said.

‘And then he’s out there for a couple of seconds and then he’s dragged back down. And then he come back up still face down and then he gets pulled down again. And then he just disappears.’
Woodward had recently moved from St Louis to the area with his twin brother – and was working at a nearby shipyard.
Marina owner Allen Burkhart added: ‘He went under one time, then he hollered at her to get out of the water.
‘Then he pulled him down the second time and that was it.
‘I’ve been here all my life and this is the first time something like this has happened. … I’m still in shock.’
