A Brookhaven, Georgia, woman has been arrested after police alleged that she lied to them about being raped.

Police say Anamirna Cabello-Loeza, 31, told them she was raped in the woods near a bus stop in Brookhaven, Georgia, on April 24.

Roberto Goana-Pina, 39, was arrested by the Opelika Police Department on May 21 after police identified him as the suspect. He was a person of interest in two more rapes; one in Norcross and another in Rosewell. He was arrested in Alabama in May, reports 11 Alive.

Through an investigation, detectives determined the statements Cabello-Loeza provided were untruthful. Detectives then dropped charges against Goana-Pina. DNA evidence later cleared Gaona-Pina of the other two assaults.

Brookhaven Police Officer Carlos Nino said, “A lot of time was wasted, if this person would have been truthful from the beginning. Our detectives worked 14 to 16 hour days, and that takes time away from family as well.”

Cabello-Loeza later turned herself in at the Brookhaven Police Department. She was charged with making false statements and was taken to the DeKalb County Jail with felony charges, reports CBS 46.
