A Chicago mother was arrested after it was discovered that she had allowed a 41-year-old man to move into her 13-year-old daughter’s bedroom.
Reports say 55-year-old Aurora Vertiz was arrested and charged with permitting sexual abuse of a child. Three months after Vertiz let the man move into her daughter’s bedroom, the girl became pregnant, and in January, the baby was born. Vertiz never told police the teen had become pregnant.
“The defendant was aware of the sexual relationship,” Assistant State’s Attorney Kim Przekota said, reports the Chicago Tribune. “She allowed the man to move into the home and share a bed with her then-13-year-old daughter.”
Bail was set at $500,000 during the initial hearing, and Vertiz was scheduled to appear in court on July 13. Reports do not say whether the man was charged with any crimes.
