A Texas man who had just turned 21 is dead after accidentally shooting himself at his birthday party, authorities said.

Joseph Perez died at Methodist Hospital early Saturday, police say.

The young man had been firing a gun during the celebration, but family members were able to take the weapon away from him.

Later, he managed to find the gun and somehow shot himself with it.

Alcohol was a factor in the shootings, police said.
