A 44-year-old West Texas high school teacher accused of having sexual relations with two female students he met through a sexual fetish website has been charged with stalking the younger of that pair, police said Monday.
Jay Dee Burns, a former teacher at Permian High School, already faces two counts of sexual assault of a child and four counts of improper relationship between an educator and student for his alleged relations with the two students — ages 16 and 18, respectively.
The 16-year-old student told Odessa police that she received a card on April 23 containing a leather bracelet with a heart-shaped pendant attached, similar to a bracelet she returned to Burns after ending their relationship, according to a news release.
The student then began receiving electronic communications and letters on May 20 from someone believed to be Burns, who seemed angry that the student had not responded to any of his approximately 200 messages sent through the Wickr instant messaging application.
Burns allegedly professed his love for the student in two letters received on June 10 and June 23, telling her that he wants to marry her and insisted that they meet soon.
The student told Odessa police that she felt threatened by the messages.
Odessa Municipal Judge Dennis Jones revoked Burns' bond on Thursday. The 44-year-old was rearrested the same day in Scurry County.
Burns was previously arrested on March 31 after a joint investigation by the Odessa Police Department and Ector County Independent School District revealed that he allegedly had sexual relations with the 16-year-old student.
The second student, 18, told police and administrators conducting that investigation that she and Burns had also engaged in an improper relationship.
The 18-year-old student made the revelation while being treated for a drug overdose at an area hospital.
According to an arrest affidavit, Burns allegedly met the 18-year-old female student through the sexual fetish website "Fet Life." The pair communicated through the website and cell phones, the 18-year-old told police.
The 18-year-old told police she once snuck out of her house to engage in sexual activity with Burns, but that she later learned Burns was engaged in a sexual relationship with the 16-year-old student.
Police said Wednesday that Burns assaulted the 16-year-old on two separate occasions.
