A California man allegedly took a blowtorch to his girlfriend to make her sell her body at an Orange County hotel, officials said Tuesday.
The woman, identified by prosecutors only as “Jane Doe,” tried to run away after a previous alleged beating at the hands of Richard Jordan Sandoval, the day before the July 9 torching incident, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
But the 24-year-old is accused of tracking her down and physically assaulting her again after threatening even more violence if she didn’t get into his car.
The following day, the accused pimp drove her to a hotel in Garden Grove in northern Orange County and allegedly commanded her to perform sex acts inside the hotel for pay. Sandoval allegedly burned her leg with the blowtorch and warned her that he would kill her if she didn’t do as she was told.
Garden Grove police officers rushed to the scene and cuffed Sandoval at that point, according to prosecutors. The cops reportedly found cocaine, empty baggies and scales in his car, along with the blowtorch.
Sandoval is currently incarcerated on a $150,000 bail and he faces a bevy of felony charges, including human trafficking, false imprisonment, domestic battery and pandering by promise, threat, or violence to become a prostitute, prosecutors say.
If he’s convicted, he could receive a sentence of up to 22 years and 8 months in a state prison.
Sandoval was arraigned Friday, and he’s due to appear in court again on July 20.
