LEESBURG — A 34-year-old local man came only so close to completing a hamburger run after a night of drinking, police said.
Reddick Williams’ Hyundai was next in line at the drive-through window at the McDonald’s restaurant on U.S. Highway 441 at about 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning when he apparently passed out, an arrest affidavit states.
An employee yelled out the window to him and later banged on his window with no response. The restaurant called police after Williams sat motionless in the drive-through lane for the next 5-10 minutes.
Police arrived and knocked on the window but couldn’t wake Williams, the affidavit states. The officer said he knocked louder, Williams looked up, and promptly fell back to sleep.
Once he got Williams to wake up, the officer said he noticed the “distinct smell of alcohol mixed with the odor of vomit.” The officer said he could still smell alcohol when Williams got out of the vehicle, but no longer could smell the vomit.
Williams was unsteady on his feet and did poorly on several field sobriety tests, police said. He was unable to complete breath tests at the police station because he complained of illness and was taken by Lake Emergency Medical Service to Leesburg Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
A blood sample was taken from Williams at the hospital.
Police charged him with DUI, which is the second time he has faced that charge, the affidavit states. He was released from jail after posting a $2,000 bond.
