Republic of Congo — A man claiming to be a park ranger at Lake Tele says he spotted the dinosaur-like monster last Friday.

The 45-year-old man, who disclosed his full name but asked to remain anonymous, told Cryptozoology News on Wednesday that he was on a boat looking for illegal fishermen when he and another person encountered the animal.

“A long neck went out of the water,” he explained. “It turned, looked at us, moved around then disappeared underwater.”

The man said the creature was out of the water for about 5 minutes and that it had a black “snake-like” neck and red eyes.

He did not provide further information regarding the physical features of the animal or the identify of the other person on the boat at the time of the purported sighting. A SMTP error occurred when attempting to deliver follow-up questions to the original email address, indicating the possibility of a hoax or the desire to stay anonymous. The park ranger’s identity could not immediately be verified.

Located Northeast of the Republic of Congo, Lake Tele is reputed to be the habitat of the Mokele-mbembe, a reptilian creature believed to be similar to the Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster. Some cryptozoologists believe the unproven water-dwelling monster could be a sauropod.

The earliest reference to the beast appeared in the book History of Loango, Kakonga, and Other Kingdoms in Africa by Abbé Lievain Bonaventure Proyart in 1776.
