I actually never owned a goat. My dad had a 66 iirc when I was a kid, but I never drove it. Other cars I had, not pictured here, were a 1968 Camaro, a 1973 Challenger, a 1987 Chevy S-10, and a 1993 Ford Thunderbird.

I won't have any pictures of my 1941 Ford Coupe until I get back home to Phoenix. Didn't bring any here to NY with us. Before anyone suggests it, I didn't buy it brand new in 1941!

The last card I bought brand new was a midnight blue 1999 Cadillac Deville Base Sedan 4.6L V8 with a powder blue cloth top. It's still in my garage back home (I hope!) and my nephew is supposed to be starting it up at least once or twice a month.

My very first car was a 1980 VW Jetta...what a POS. If you drove it too long on a wamr or hot day, it would overheat and you had to sit and wait for it to cool down before you could go again :wha:

Current vehicle is a 2005 4WD Ford Ranger....it's the 2nd straight Ranger I have bought v(it replaced a 1999 Ranger) and I love it.

My very first car was a white 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier 2-door, passed down to me by my parents in 1993. I drove that car into the ground and replaced it with a black 1997 Honda Civic HX 2-door that I bought new and paid off myself. In 2008, I was in a pretty bad car accident (I was rear ended at a red light by a Dodge Ram going at least 50 mph), and that effectively destroyed my Civic. With what little money that guy's insurance paid out to me (around $4800, I should've sued his ass) and some money I had been saving up, I put a healthy down payment on a used Grey 2006 Honda Civic EX 2-door and am currently paying that off.

My first was an awesome piece of shit. A 1989 Mazda 626. It had power everything, and it all worked really poorly  Sometimes you'd turn on one thing and the other would go. You didn't need keys to open the doors and they flew out of the ignition going around corners. The door-handle didn't work from the inside so you had to wait while the ridiculously slow power window rolled down to let yourself out, then wait to roll it back up. Such a death-trap. It leaked break fluid and burned oil like crazy. Just a lot of great quirks that my friends and I loved. SO many funny stories and awesomely good times in that car. Being the first one with a license and car in high school was a dangerous gift. Too many fond memories. I probably should have died in that thing. It was kind of a sad day when it went to the scrap yard.

http://i53.tinypic.com/2vnjnsn.jpg
A 1998 Nissan Pathfinder is my current car. I've had it for a few years. It has been good, no real problems and it's a lot of fun to drive. It's great for going up the mountain, camping and snowboarding because of the 4x4 and and it's really nice when the weather is nasty. Driving a big car is fun, but the gas millage is a major downside. It's a beast in that regard, especially living in a city of old people with stop and go traffic.

My brother is going to take it off my hands soon, and I'm going to be getting a new sedan of some sort. I'm thinking a nice little Mazda 3. After I find a job that is

Dunno about the Coupe, but the MS3 is a nice little car for the $$. It was one of the cars I looked at before I bought the Caliber SRT4 for my wife. The CSRT4 has a bit more room, and I like it's styling better (that's totally subjective though, lots hate the CSRT4's styling) Unfortunately, though the Cali is still being made, the SRT4 is not.

My honest advice (if this is the first car you will finance) GF, is to buy the cheapest POS you can stand, drive the snot out of it, pay it off, then sell it (not trade in) Then go buy something you like better.

Noilly Pratt
02-01-2011, 02:47 PM
I'm not sold on the Mazda 3 styling myself. But that Mazdaspeed is definitely a powerhouse and it well equipped for the money.

I did just what you said Kev - when I was around GF's age in 1987 - got a VW Fox for 8 grand new, and drove it for 200k, then got the car I have now for 15 grand in 1992. It has 300K on it now. Regular oil changes and attention every 6 - 8 months are the keys for longevity. And, regular "Italian Tune-ups" :D

KevinD
02-01-2011, 03:47 PM
I financed my first in 87 as well. It was a 1 year old chevy S-10, base model, had about 10,000 miles on it iirc. I got it for $6k with 4 year warranty, ect. I drove it for two years (early payoff) then a month after I paid it off, I totaled it mountain racing. I didn't buy another vehicle (financed ) until a few years later (the 93 T-bird) I don't know about now, but when I was that age, it was difficult to get financing if you didn't already have good credit. I financed the S-10 though the Air Force Credit Union, and the interest was really low: 3.2% iirc.
I tend to keep my vehicles until I can't cobble them back together any more, and you are most correct. It is imperative to perform regular maintenance. My 99Z28 has about 190k miles and going strong, the 03 Ram has 210k miles and still has lots of life (it will go to my daughter in 2 more years) then I'll buy myself another truck. Hopefully the wife's CSRT4 is still running good then.

Meh, I drove a piece of shit in high school and for a few years after. It was fun, but I should have died in it  My current vehicle is in decent shape and paid off but no good if I'm driving across town every single day for work gas wise and in the city.

Time for a respectable car! My parents have a fully stocked Mazda 3 (leather and all), 2005 with low millage that they would sell to me. I could pay them back without any financing which would be great. Dad wants a BMW, mom wants a hybrid so neither of them want the Mazda anymore

Sounds like my best option for a good car and the payment option is hard to turn down. For the same price I guess I could get a new Hundai or some shit... not really into that idea. In a perfect world I'd drive a truck but the gas isn't worth it.

KevinD

Oh, got ya. Well, see, I'm not totally sure on the 'vert you posted in the pic, but I THINK it's a 1970 Barracuda. I know it's a 'cuda, just not sure of the year. I grew up when cars of those years (60-70s) were still pretty cheap. For example, I bought my 68 camaro in about 82-83 for about $400 or so.

Noilly Pratt
02-02-2011, 04:48 AM
I know it isn't a '71 Barracuda/Cuda, 'cause those ones had 4 headlights! It used to be a sport, identifying cars by the year. It gets harder after the 80's.

Now, I'd be hard pressed to discern a 2000 Honda Civic from a 2002.

ok time to add my car to this list . . . .

this is my 1st and present Auto . . . its a '00 Ford Focus 1.6. nothing special but not too shabby either. so far it has survived 5 Wales Rally events and countless offroad adventures in the name of motorsport.

i doubt theres much left in the thing as its getting close to 11 years old and starting to show it. but as long as i can help it, it will never get sold. ive heard so many people say they wish they had never got rid of their 1st auto, and i have plans for it! only mods so far are tints and a decent stereo
