NEW YORK – After days of denials, a choked-up New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner (WEE'-nuhr) confessed that he sent a bulging-underpants photo of himself to a young woman. He also admitted that he had "inappropriate" conversations with six women before and after getting married.

But he added, "I am not resigning."

Weiner called the initial photo a joke and a "hugely regrettable mistake."

There was a married Republican that was forced out a month ago because he posted a shirtless photo of himself on some sort of dating site. He was scorned by some Dems. and the media, and now this scumbag liar that has made a spectacle of this issue! He's married too, and apparently has been scamming for women everywhere. He won't resign and Dems. will just circle the wagons as usual!

Rep. Anthony Weiner: 'The Picture Was of Me and I Sent It'

Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York said today he has engaged in "several inappropriate" electronic relationships with six women over three years, and that he publicly lied about a photo of himself sent over Twitter to a college student in Seattle over a week ago.

"I take full responsibility for my actions," Weiner said. "The picture was of me, and I sent it."

The announcement came as ABC News prepared to release an interview with Meagan Broussard, a 26-year-old single mother from Texas who provided dozens of photos, emails, Facebook messages and cell phone call logs that she says chronicle a sexually-charged electronic relationship with Weiner that rapidly-evolved for more than a month, starting on April 20, 2011.

View an exclusive slideshow of images obtained by ABC News.

ABC News reached out to Weiner earlier today for comment about his possible ties to Broussard, but he did not respond to requests for an interview. At a press conference later, Weiner confirmed Broussard was one of the women with whom he sexted.

Broussard's story had threatened to expose the secret online life of one of the House Democrats' most popular members, and a man many considered a leading candidate for mayor of New York City.

It also raised new questions about Weiner's explanation for how a photo of a man's groin area ended up on his public Twitter feed on May 27. Today the congressman said he accidentally sent the image to a woman, Gennette Cordova, who was following him on Twitter, as a joke.

"I just chuckled," Broussard, a nursing student, said of her reaction to Weiner's initial response to the Twitter incident. "It would be one thing if he came out and said, 'Hey, so what?' But now he's saying he got hacked?"

Broussard said she received the same photo of a man's crotch on May 18 in an email from a man who she then believed was Weiner.

Weiner told ABC News last week that the Twitter incident was a "prank" on him, but he neither confirmed nor denied at the time that the photo depicted his body. "I am reluctant to say anything definitively about this," he said of the photo.

Broussard, who describes herself as disinterested in politics and previously unaware of Weiner, said that she has never met the congressman in person and doesn't "think he's a bad guy." And, she said, she actively participated in "sexting" -- as she has done frequently with other men online -- with the man she presumed to be Weiner.

During one flirtatious Facebook chat last month, Broussard said, she issued the man on the other end a challenge.

"I asked him to take a picture and write 'me' on it so I would know," Broussard said in an interview.

The reply, she says, came moments later. Email records provided to ABC News by Broussard show that at 3:08 p.m. on May 5th she received a message from anthonyweiner@aol.com, which is listed as an email address for Weiner on one campaign document found online.

The message included an image of a man, who appears to be Weiner, sporting a tie and a wedding band, holding up the message "me" on a piece of white paper.

"I didn't think it was him," she says. "I thought for sure, 'why would someone in that position be doing this?'"

Broussard said she wanted to come forward now out of concerns for her own image as an aspiring nurse, and that of her 3-year-old daughter, should her identity be leaked online. More than a dozen photos sent by Broussard to anthonyweiner@aol.com and a second account she believed was Weiner's were obtained and licensed from her by ABC News.

"I have my own life, my own things where I'm from and I just wanted to go ahead with them. I thought I could just be private about it, but there's no reason for me to hide," she said. "I didn't do anything wrong. I don't know him. I'm just putting my story out there before anyone else tries to."

Broussard said she confided about her experiences with several close friends, including one with Republican political ties. The man, whom she declined to identify, encouraged her to share her story with Matt Drudge and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.

Breitbart, who first published details of Broussard's story on Biggovernment.com, shared her identity with ABC News.

Broussard said her first contact with Weiner occurred on April 20 after she "liked" a YouTube clip of one of Weiner's speeches that had been posted to his Facebook page.

She also commented -- "hottttt" -- on the link, which is still publicly visible on Weiner's page and has received hundreds of other comments from Facebook users.

Weiner "almost immediately" added Broussard as a Facebook friend through his personal profile account, she said. And she accepted his request.

According to Broussard, the two immediately began messaging through Facebook chat, eventually exchanging "hundreds of messages," many of a sexual nature.

Because of how Facebook messaging works, ABC News was not able to view records of the alleged chats.

He would say "just good morning, how are you doing, what are you doing today? What are you wearing? What do you like? You know, in the bedroom, you know, that sort of thing," she said.

During one Facebook chat conversation, Broussard said she voiced uneasiness with the electronic relationship, to which she says Weiner replied, "you are not stalking me....I am stalking you."

In another conversation, Broussard said she asked Weiner, "Why are you so open? I said, I'm not an open book like that."

"He replied, 'I'm an open book. Maybe too open,'" she said.

Occasionally while chatting through Facebook, the two would simultaneously use email to exchange photos, she said.

Two images Broussard received from anthonyweiner@aol.com on May 4 and May 5 show what appears to be Weiner's face.

One, sent under the subject line "Me and the pussys," appears to show Weiner seated on a sofa in an undershirt next to cats; the other appears to depict Weiner in an office holding the white piece of paper. Both appear to have been sent via Blackbery, according to email records.

Later in the month, Broussard received three, more graphic images from the address RockOh77@yahoo.com, which she said was Weiner's online alias.

A Google search for the "RockOh77" email address returns only one website – a profile for the user name on Invisible.ir, which is described as a web tool that allows "hiding your images from others." On the page are three previously-unseen thumbnail photos of a bare-chested man that appears to be Weiner.

On May 18, Broussard received an image from the RockOh77 account that shows a man's erect penis. Two days later, she received a shot of a bare-chested man sitting at an office desk. The man in the photo shares facial features with Weiner, and personal photographs in the background resemble his known aquaintances.

"I don't think he has any control over what he's doing in this area," Broussard said. "I don't think someone can be that open in that amount of time."

The relationship between Broussard and Weiner only ventured out of the digital world once, she said, when a man identifying himself as Weiner called by phone from a number associated with Weiner's New York congressional office on the afternoon of May 18.

"The day he called he just said, 'Who in the world would be acting like me?' laughing about it," she said.

"You're an internet rat, aren't you?" Broussard said she asked him, to which Weiner just sort of giggled.

Then, she says, the conversation got personal. "He heard her [Broussard's daughter] in the background, I think, and he said, 'Oh is that --' and then he said her name, and I said, 'yeah, it's her birthday,' and that kind of freaked me out because you had to pilfer through my Facebook to find out her name."

After they hung up, Broussard said she called the number back to see if it was actually him. A Weiner office receptionist answered, she said. Broussard provided a record of the call to ABC News.

Their last correspondence, she says, was through Facebook message on May 27, just hours before the alleged "hack" of Weiner's Twitter account occurred.

"Are you offline?" Broussard wrote at 3:37 pm. "Crashed back up," Weiner replied at 4:21 pm. Broussard last sent messages via Facebook and email to the man she believed to be Weiner on May 31, but has not received replies.

"I don't think he's a bad guy. I think he's got issues just like everybody else," Broussard said. "Everyone's standards are different, but to be elected to Congress and sit there all day on Facebook and chatting?"

Once again, the left was blasting Breitbart for reporting the story, he was called a liar, and that he falsified the story so he can smear a good man. Weiner only came out today because the women were lining up to expose his lies.

Huma Abedin remains dignified

Published: June 04, 2011

NEW YORK - Huma Abedin has remained dignified amid media frenzy surrounding her scandal-hit husband Anthony Weiner, a prominent US congressman from New York. Huma, 34, who was married just a year ago, to Weiner, a man with a playboy past, is dealing with her husband’s public shame over his immoral photo that was sent to an attractive female college student. Born in Michigan and raised in Saudi Arabia, Huma is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s trusted right-hand woman, serving as her aide since 1996.
Former President Clinton even referred to Abedin as his “second daughter.” Her father, a scholar, died when she was 17. Her mother is an educationist serving in Saudi Arabia.
Abedin, was named TIME magazine’s ‘40 Under 40’ rising stars of American politics last fall and was featured in a 2007 issue of Vogue magazine.
Amid building scandal, Weiner, who is Jewish, said Thursday his beautiful wife doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. “She’s seen an awful lot,” Weiner said in a television interview. "But I won’t mind telling you that even for someone that went through the Clinton years, this has been a befuddling experience.”
Abedin, known as 'body woman' for Mrs Clinton, returned to work Thursday as usual.
The New York Post reported Friday that Mrs Abedin has shown incredible grace under fire, and not displayed any signs of embarrassment or anger over her husband’s public roasting. "She has been doing her job like nothing has happened. It has nothing to do with her job. This is her personal life," a source told the Post.

There is nothing more irritating then when he's acting totally intellectually dishonest during interviews, he will go round and round and use lawyer double talk. More Weiner Evidence Mounts, As Radar Reveals Sexts Mentioned John Boehner
By Dylan Howard - Senior Executive Editor, Star

http://i.imgur.com/J7HWc.jpg

While the New York congressman was away, the Weiner came out to play.

Five of Rep. Anthony Weiner's 15 cyber-sex sessions with a 40-year-old Las Vegas blackjack dealer happened when he was in Washington D.C. representing his constituents of New York, RadarOnline.com has uncovered.

An examination of congressional records, the official bible of the proceedings and debates of the U.S. Congress, has found Rep. Weiner (D-Brooklyn/Queens) sexted blonde casino worker Lisa Weiss on the same day he debated official government business.

It's not clear if the inappropriate messages with the woman occurred before, during or after the parliamentary sessions.

However, the shocking new evidence could undermine the embattled Democratic congressman's claim that he did not use government resources for his extra-marital activities.

As we previously reported, Rep. Weiner is facing an ethics investigation "to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules," according to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Weiner consulted Pelosi before admitting that he made "terrible mistakes" in sending lewd pictures of himself to women he met on Facebook and Twitter over the past few years.

What's more, RadarOnline.com and Star has learned that Rep. Weiner's first steamy session with Weiss, his Facebook mistress, came just TWO MONTHS after he married Huma Abedin in Long Island in a lavish ceremony officiated by former President Bill Clinton.

Abedin is a longtime aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

According to the Library of Congress, Rep. Weiner appeared in the House of Representatives on January 20, March 3 and 16, April 13 and September 20, last year -- all days that we've conformed he engaged in online shenanigans with Weiss.

During one rendezvous, Rep. Weiner told the woman it was 9am on the East Coast.

Three hours later, he took the floor of Congress during a debate on providing funding to the department of defense, according to official documents.

On April 16, a time when the House of Representatives discussed the constitutional authority statement, Rep. Weiner asked Weiss when she was going to send him nude images of herself so he could "jerk off."

"Go into the bathroom mirror now," he wrote, encouraging her to snap lewd images and forward them to him. "I'm like a rock," he added.

During the height of the federal government shut down crisis, on April 7, Rep. Weiner also sexted Weiss and bemoaned how he hadn't been able to share explicit messages with her because he'd been "punching the speaker" -- a reference to political foe John Boehner, the speaker of the House.

That same night, Weiner appeared on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show in a live interview from the steps of Capitol Hill.

Weiner’s Advice on Media Management Haunts Him

By Chad Pergram

Created 2011-06-07 02:21

He's brash. Glib. New York cocky. There's a swagger as he struts through the Congressional corridors.

I've interviewed Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) on-camera multiple times by the Will Rogers Statue in the Capitol. I've chatted with him in the Speaker's Lobby outside the House chamber. Listened as he held court in a hallway for a gaggle of journalists.

Every Capitol Hill reporter knows that if they see a clutch of their colleagues circling Anthony Weiner, they'd better get over because chances are, Weiner was going to say something no other lawmaker would dare say and you were going to miss it.

If you've spent as much time covering Weiner as I have, you would know his cadences and the timbre of his voice.

And as I watched Weiner speak at a Midtown Manhattan hotel Monday afternoon, his inflection on the seventh word that came out of his mouth told me something was wrong.

"Thank you very much for being here and good afternoon," Weiner said.

The Congressman's voice cracked on the word "here." I had never before heard his voice crack before. There was no Brooklyn neighborhood bravado. His modulation was thin and reedy.

"I have not been honest with myself, my family..."

It happened again. "Last Friday night I Tweeted a photo of myself that I intended to send as direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle."

Weiner nearly swallowed the word "Seattle" whole, his voice trailing off.

The bluster was gone. Because Anthony Weiner was admitting he was a liar.

With certitude.

A liar for telling those of us in the press that someone hacked his Twitter account and sent a bulging crotch shot to "a woman in Seattle."

Weiner wounded his credibility even more by conducting an impromptu press conference in the Speaker's Lobby with reporters and cracking double entendres in a failed effort to disarm the press.

People make mistakes in Congress. But bald-faced lying falls in another galaxy. Especially on a venue like Capitol Hill where credibility is the stock in trade.

Weiner evolved into a media darling over the past few years. Imagine if he survives this. Will scads of reporters huddle around Weiner in Capitol press scrums to hear what he says?

Or can they trust him?

Weiner's Tweets aren't the only thing that's coming back to haunt him. His words are, too.

Weiner's jockeying with the press was the stuff of legend. Especially when he would take to the airwaves to spar with the hosts of FOX, CNN and MSNBC. In March, the Radio-TV Correspondents Association invited Weiner to be one of four lawmakers to deliver short comedy routines at its annual dinner.

"I have a reputation in town for being something of a master interview... because of my calm, insight and my poise," Weiner said, tongue in cheek. "I have some tips I want to offer to my colleagues as they're doing the interviews."

Weiner then showed clips of him sparring with various FOX hosts, ranging from Megyn Kelly to Bill O'Reilly to Sean Hannity to Mike Huckabee [1].

The tape sent the audience into spirals of laughter.

"Let's face it now. That's some dynamite TV," Weiner declared, noting that interview subjects should always keep eye contact with the reporter.

"For one, it shows that you are listening," Weiner said. "But it also shows respect so they don't think you're a jerk when you're done."

How about charlatan.

Granted, Weiner's routine was in jest and frankly a comedic riot. But really? That's all lawmakers need to do is make eye contact when they're on the air so the host won't "think you're a jerk."

Remember all of those journalists Weiner sat down with last week for interviews? Bret Baier. Wolf Blitzer. Luke Russert. Others. Wonder what they all think now after Weiner fibbed to them.

Within minutes of Weiner's news conference, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called for the Ethics Committee to probe Weiner's conduct. In fact, Pelosi specifically asked investigators "to determine whether any official resources were used" by Weiner during Twittergate.

No fool she, Pelosi knew this was the only course of action she could take.

Just a few days ago, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Steve Israel (D-NY) argued that control of the House of Representatives was now in play for 2012. Pelosi and Israel know that Republicans will howl about Weiner to maximize their political mileage. And with the House conceivably in play, anything that casts a pall over the Democrats is a major problem (See Foley, Mark).

Pelosi's ethics demand is akin to her 2005 request that investigators determine whether former Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA) illegally used Congressional resources to bribe lobbyists for gifts. Cunningham later resigned and is serving the longest prison sentence ever meted out to any lawmaker for official corruption.

But in many respects, Pelosi's maneuver mirrors efforts by House Speaker John Boehner [2] (R-OH) when Republicans were in the minority and faced ethics woes.

With one major difference.

After a 2008 drunk driving arrest, it came to light that then-Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) maintained a secret family in suburban Washington, DC. He was married with kids back in his Staten Island district. But Fossella had a toddler through a paramour in Alexandria, VA.

Fossella tinkered with running for office again.

Until Boehner spoke to him.

Last year, it was discovered that then-Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) had an affair with one of his own aides. Souder wanted to serve out the balance of his term and then step aside.

Boehner wouldn't stand for it.

It's unclear what the conversation would have been like between Boehner and former Rep. Chris Lee (R-NY) this past February. Lee resigned even before Boehner could speak to him after the New York Republican emailed semi-nude photos to a woman on Craigslist.

So should Pelosi follow Boehner's lead and ask Weiner to step aside?

That's a tough call. Several Democratic lawmakers indicate to FOX that they feel betrayed by Weiner. He not only lied to the press but lied to them as well, claiming someone hacked his Twitter feed.

In addition, referring Weiner's conduct to the Ethics Committee is a double-edged sword. The panel moves at a Devonian pace. Even though an Ethics Committee inquiry is a serious matter, such a probe might not do Democrats any favors. A lengthy investigation could hang over Democrats like a sword of Damocles. That could harm Democrats politically if the inquiry lingers too long.

In March, 2010, Pelosi seized the gavel of then-House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) amid his ethics troubles. But stripping Rangel of his chairmanship did little to quash the public furor as the ethics investigation reached a fevered pitch shortly before the midterm elections.

During his remarks at the Congressional Correspondents Dinner, Weiner cracked a joke about Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

"Michele Bachmann, I don't know if she's here. She's probably not. She's campaigning in Iowa and organizing in that important caucus state because she's running for president," Weiner said. "That's really all I have for that joke."

Bachmann is expected to launch her campaign for president in a few days. And before this scandal, many political handicappers viewed Weiner as the frontrunner in New York's 2013 mayoral race.

And that's really all the handicappers now have for that joke.

Weiner’s Wife Is Pregnant

By MICHAEL BARBARO and ASHLEY PARKER

June 8, 2011, 5:11 pm

Their marriage has become the subject of intense speculation and scrutiny amid an embarrassing online sex scandal.

Now, Representative Anthony D. Weiner and Huma Abedin are about to make news of a different kind: they are expecting their first child.

Ms. Abedin, 35, is in the early stages of pregnancy, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.

The pregnancy, which the couple has disclosed to close friends and family, adds a new dimension to questions about the future of their marriage.

Mr. Weiner, 46, who has admitted to engaging in salacious online conversations with at least six women over the last few years, has declared that he and his wife have no intention of splitting up, even though some of the exchanges occurred during their marriage.

“We will weather this,” Mr. Weiner said on Monday, during his emotional news conference. “I love her very much, and she loves me.”

But Ms. Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton, has remained silent about the topic as she keeps up a hectic schedule at the State Department.

Ms. Abedin returned to work this week and departed on Wednesday for a trip to Northern Africa with Ms. Clinton.

A State Department spokesman declined to comment Wednesday afternoon.

Exclusive: Weiner's Messages to Teenage Girl in Delaware Draw Police Attention

By Jana Winter

Published June 10, 2011 | FoxNews.com

DEVELOPING: NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Police on Friday afternoon came to the home of a 17-year-old high school junior to ask her about direct online communications she has had with Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Two officers from the New Castle County Police Department arrived at the girl's home around 4:30 p.m. and asked to speak with the girl's mother about the daughter's contact with Weiner. Another officer appeared at the home a short time later. A FoxNews.com reporter was at the home when the police arrived.

The girl, whose name is being withheld because she is a minor, told FoxNews.com, "I'm doing OK."

The police left the home after about 30 minutes, followed by the daughter and mother, who left in a separate car. It was not clear if the mother and daughter were going to continue the conversation with police at another location.

Sources close the student said the girl followed Weiner on Twitter after seeing him speak during a school trip to Washington on April 1. Weiner direct-messaged the girl back on April 13, the sources said, though it is not clear what other communication the two may have had between or after those dates.

Weiner heads to rehab as Pelosi, party leaders call on him to resign

By GEORGETT ROBERTS, MELISSA KLEIN and PHIL HELSEL

Updated: Sat., Jun. 11, 2011, 4:49 PM

Weiner's pulling out -- for a little while, at least.

Serial-sexting Congressman Anthony Weiner headed off to rehab and will seek a leave of absence, as Nancy Pelosi and other Dems demanded he quit following his admission to sending private Twitter messages to a 17-year-old girl.

Weiner's office said the randy rep left this morning for "professional treatment," and will take a leave of absence from the House as he tries to become a better family man.

“Congressman Weiner departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person,” Weiner’s office said in a statement. “In light of that, he will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well. Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents."

Meanwhile, Pelosi and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz today said Weiner should resign, calling Weiner's sending explicit photos and raunchy emails to women all over the country "indefensible" and a distraction.

"Congressman Weiner has the love of his family, the confidence of his constituents, and the recognition that he needs help. I urge Congressman Weiner to seek that help without the pressures of being a Member of Congress," Pelosi said in a statement released this afternoon.

Wasserman Schultz called Weiner's continued service in Congress "untenable," and added that "this sordid affair has become an unacceptable distraction."

Today's statements were the first time party leaders called on Weiner to step down in the wake of the sexting scandal, and came only after the embattled representative admitted that he sent private Twitter messages to a Delaware teen.

Earlier this morning, Weiner denied he had any inappropriate online contact with the 17-year-old, but did not deny that he’s seeking counsel from Bill and Hillary Clinton about the scandal.

"Nothing explicit. Nothing indecent. Absolutely nothing inappropriate," the embattled Congressman said as he left his Forest Hills apartment and went about routine morning errands, fetching his shirts at the Smile Often dry cleaner on nearby Austin Street.

Cops in New Castle County, Del. yesterday questioned the high school junior about her communications with Weiner whom she met on a field trip to D.C.

The girl’s mother has said the Twitter messages weren’t obscene.

Weiner was home alone this morning. His wife, Huma Abedin, is still traveling in the Africa with her boss, the Secretary of State.

Reporters trailed the Congressman as he left his Ascan Avenue home for the dry cleaners, a stop at an ATM and a brief visit to a local real estate firm.

When asked about seeking advice from the Clintons, he’d only say, "I’m having conversations with people — friends, neighbors, members of the family.

"Look I’ve made some serious mistakes here. I have to redeem myself and I’m going to try to get back to work. These were personal failings and I’m trying not to let it get into my professional work," he said.

The Congressman maintained he’s not going to resign over the sex scandal.

"I have no news today," he said. "Nothing has changed."

He shook hands as he walked along Austin Street, the main shopping drag in Forest Hills.

"You’re a great man," one woman told him. "I support you. We all support you -- Forest Hills. All New York is going to make sure you are the next mayor.

Weiner Tells Friends He Will Step Down

Published June 16, 2011

Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner will resign from his House office, Fox News confirmed Thursday.

Weiner spoke with top leaders including Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, sources told Fox News.

The New York congressman, who has faced three weeks of scandal over pictures he texted to women he communicated with on Twitter and Facebook, had been facing a revolt from Democratic leaders, who had planned to meet Thursday to consider whether to strip Weiner of his role on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

House Speaker John Boehner said he has not yet received a resignation letter early Thursday.

The announcement that he would depart came after the scandal grew even stranger when a former porn actress who exchanged emails and messages with Weiner said Wednesday he asked her to lie about their interactions.

Porn star Ginger Lee said Wednesday that Weiner asked her to lie about their online relationship, and he should resign.

"I think Anthony Weiner should resign because he lied to the public and the press for more than a week," Lee said describing a phone conversation that took place on June 2 in which the two spoke.

"It might never have turned into this if he had told the truth, but he kept lying," Lee said during a news conference in New York with her attorney, Gloria Allred.

Lee, from La Vergne, Tenn., said she and Weiner exchanged about 100 emails between March and June, after Lee posted a supportive statement about the congressman on her blog. In several situations, Lee said Weiner turned the conversation toward sex.

"'I have wardrobe demands too. I need to highlight my package,"' Weiner wrote Lee, in an email read aloud at the news conference by Allred.

Weiner has acknowledged sending sexually explicit messages and suggestive photos of himself to various women and then lying about it. Weiner had taken a two-week leave from the House and is reported to be in treatment at an undisclosed location.

He has told friends he wanted to speak with his pregnant wife, Huma Abedin, before deciding whether to resign. She returned to Washington early Wednesday from a trip to Africa with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The House Ethics Committee on Monday began a preliminary inquiry that could bloom into a full investigation if Weiner ignores calls to resign.
