A father who stored almost 1,500 indecent images of children on his computer has escaped with a community order after telling the judge: "Curiosity got the better of me."

Peter Rowe, 50, told the court he had lost his job, wife, children and his home after admitting a total of nine charges relating to 1,430 indecent images of children as well as 93 extreme pornographic images involving animals.

Speaking at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, his lawyer Evelyn Hicks said: "He was a working man.

"He had a family, children.

"Since his arrest, he has lost everything - his wife, his home and his family completely.

"This all came about because he didn't have the best childhood and curiosity got the better of him and that curiosity turned into a want. He never acted on it."

Sentencing Rowe to a three-year community order, Judge Christopher Ball said he was satisfied Rowe was safe to release into the community having sought help at mental health charity, the Linden Centre, in Chelmsford.

He was discharged last week but is still receiving support.

Rowe was first arrested in April 2014 after police searched his home in Colchester, Essex.

The images were downloaded by Rowe between September 2012 and April 2014.

"He never acted on it." Gathering that many pics is some sort of acting on it already I think...plus what if his "curiosity" got even bigger and he could not satisfy it by just pics? Gotdamn...prison is the place for this scumbag!

the thing that scares me is related to Windows 10 and that process that reports when the user opens a jpg...saved on his pc....

if you really wanted to screw someone over, you hack into his pc and transfer about 1000 kiddie porn images...

my brother's ex-wife's brother..who is about my age, was doing some online shit with an underage girl

the federales came to his house, hauled him out (without letting him get his shoes on) took his pc and every other piece of electronics at his place...he was charged and he was guilty

my ex sister in law who was there at the time said it happened just like on TV...she was held in a different room along with her Mom, and they took him and his shit out of the house within 15 minutes...
