Mistakes are commonly made on the football field, but nearly all mistakes can be fixed or corrected.

But for St. Edward High School in Elgin, Ill., one mistake made on the field could cost them their remaining home schedule.

You see, the company hired to fertilize their field accidentally used weed killer instead of — ya know — fertilizer.

The result?

"It was an honest mistake made in the mixing of chemicals for the field and they feel terrible about it," athletic director P.J. White told the Chicago Tribune. "Someone grabbed the wrong bottle when they were mixing chemicals."

Roughly two-thirds of the field was damaged, and the school will make a decision on the status of future home games after the team has had a chance to practice on the field, or at least what remains of the field. St. Edward is expected to host Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep on Friday, but could end up playing the game at a local park.
