COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A north Columbus Verizon store was the victim of a break-in overnight, but the thieves didn’t get away with what they thought they did.

It happened early Wednesday morning at a store at the corner of North High Street and Royal Forest Blvd.

Police say one or more people used large rocks to break the glass in the store’s back door and gain entry.

Once inside, several phones were cut or ripped from the displays.

Lucky for the store, all of the display phones are not actually real phones and are of no value to the thieves. According to police, the store has been the victim of theft in the past and has taken measures to deter criminals.

The real phones are locked in a vault every night.

Some significant damage was left behind, however, including broken glass, cut security cords, and damaged display cases.
