A new poll shows that an overwhelmingly majority of Americans view illegal immigration as a “problem,” with three-fourths of respondents calling it a “serious” issue.

The poll, conducted by YouGov, shows that 92 percent of Americans believe illegal immigration is a problem, with 77 percent calling it either a "somewhat serious" or "very serious" problem.

The poll revealed that when it came to the Hispanic people who were surveyed, 38 percent called illegal immigration a "very serious problem." Only 18 percent of Hispanics polled said illegal immigration was a minor issue.

More than half of those polled (52 percent) believe illegal immigrants currently in the United States deserve a pathway to citizenship if they pass background checks, have a job and pay back taxes. 31 percent of those polled did not agree with a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

While the views on illegal immigration consistently varied based on political views or ideologies, only 28 percent of those polled know an illegal immigrant in their personal life. More than half (53 percent) did not know anyone who was an undocumented immigrant in the U.S.

GOP presidential contender Donald Trump has advocated for the deportation of all of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants currently in America, The Guardian reported in late August. Among respondents in this poll, 48 percent either “strongly support” or “somewhat support” the federal government actively searching for illegal immigrants who have not committed any crimes and deporting them. Thirty-eight percent did not support this course of action, and 14 percent were unsure.

However, 61 percent said there was little or no chance that all of the undocumented immigrants in the country will be deported. Only a third of respondents (33 percent) felt that the government would be able to deport the estimated 11 million immigrants.

YouGov surveyed 1,000 American adults between Sept. 1-2 for the poll.

The poll was released just one day after a new investigative report from Fox News revealed that “illegal immigrants are three times as likely to be convicted of murder as members of the general population.” In statistical terms, the report showcases that 11.7 million illegal immigrants in the United States account for 13.6 percent of all criminals sentenced for crimes committed in America. Moreover, 20 percent of kidnapping sentences, 16 percent of drug trafficking sentences and 12 percent of murder sentences are all attributed to illegal immigrants, according to the report.
