A Lancaster County man will spend five to 20 years in state prison for burning down his family's home in June 2014.

Joshua A. Witman, 34, told police he set fire to the home on East Mohler Church Road in Ephrata Township because aliens were living in the walls of the home and a basement was a portal for demons, according to a news release from the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office. Witman set fire to the home by igniting a box of wood in the basement, according to the news release.

Witnesses saw Witman fleeing the scene on a bicycle before the home was engulfed in flames, according to the news release. He had a history of heroin abuse and a criminal record dating back to 1999, said First Assistant District Attorney Christopher Lechner.

In addition to prison time, Witman must also pay $91,000 in restitution costs to rebuild his mother's home.
