ESTO — A Slocomb, Ala. man was arrested Tuesday after he stole a lottery ticket dispenser from a liquor store and later attempted to cash a lottery ticket at the same store.
Holmes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary at Big Daddy Liquor Store in Esto around 1 a.m. Deputies arrived to find the front door of the store busted out and the lottery ticket dispenser missing. The machine was stocked with lottery tickets valuing $7,505. The Florida Lottery was notified of the incident and the affected tickets were voided.
At 9:30 the same morning, a man entered the store and attempted to cash in one of the tickets. A store employee called officers, who arrived at the store and arrested 41-year-old Richard D. Morgan for the burglary earlier that morning.
The suspect confessed to the crime and officers recovered lottery tickets from a residence in Slocomb.
Morgan is charged with burglary, dealing in stolen property, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
