A spontaneous dance-off between cheerleaders from Wilmer Hutchins High School and James Madison High School in the Dallas area turned violent on Sept. 25 (video below).
The drill teams had an impromptu dance competition dance after a football game, but one teen turned her back on another girl, who hit her in the head.
“You do have a personal space in which you are supposed to respect, in which that was not respected, so, I mean, it was heated at that point," Deshannon Roberts, the mom of the teen who got hit, told Fox 4 News.
The brawl grew from dance team members to adults.
“I immediately leaped over the rail and ran to the field, trying to get my baby,” Roberts added. “By that time it was chaos.”
The Dallas Independent School District said in a statement: "Impromptu dance-offs are not part of the approved performance for dance teams and fighting is never acceptable. Disciplinary actions will be taken as appropriate," notes the New York Daily News.
All of the girls have been banned from performing at future football games, but Roberts said that decision wasn't fair because students should be allowed to stand up for themselves.
No one was arrested or seriously injured.
