The 21-year-old has almost 700,000 followers on the social media site, and cannily mixes her feed with fun-loving pics of her everyday life alongside product placements.

Each post can generate up to 25,000 likes, with companies keen to piggy back on Gabrielle's popularity by getting her to endorse their product.

She has subtly promoted clothing, jewellery, drinks and cosmetic products, landing herself a number of lucrative deals in the process.

Gabrielle, from Australia, told the Gold Coast Bulletin: "I definitely (earn more money from Instagram), 100 per cent.

"About a year and a half ago I was travelling to Brisbane a lot for work and by the time you take out the agency’s 20 per cent, GST on commission and then tax, the model is left with little."

Gabrielle is one of a number of 'insta-famous' celebrities who are considered marketing gold by advertisers once they reach 100,000 followers.

Companies will pay hundreds of dollars for a single picture featuring their product, and thousands for brand campaign featuring multiple posts over a period of time.

She is free to set her own terms and conditions and only endorses products she genuinely uses and likes.

'Some [companies] go through my management but others I just send a general brief with some terms like, I have the discretion to delete a post after four weeks if I wish," she said.

Good on her if she can make a buck or two before her looks go.

Yeah, what was I thinking  Posting selfies to Instagram is EXACTLY like a model working for a modeling agency, how could I have not seen that. Wow, do I feel dumb now.

It may not be catwalk modelling but I don't see how this differs too much from say catalogue work. :-k

It may not be the same but it makes logical sense. The manufacturers are reaching their target audience using the latest tech. The model and the manufacturer cuts out the middle man (i.e. modeling agencies and advertising agencies), so they're both saving money in the long run. It's actually a pretty brilliant strategy if you take a minute and think about it.

I would but I'm reminded of a Groucho Marx quote, "I wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member"
