An Islamabad, Pakistan, father, with the help of his son, allegedly murdered his daughter because she baked an imperfect roti, a round bread.
The victim, Aniqa Khalid, died on Sept. 11 at the age of 12, reports The Herald. Her body was dumped in an open area.
Two days after the murder, her father, Muhammad Khalid, informed police that she was missing. Police later found the girl’s body and determined her death was the result of violence, police officer Muhammad Javed said.
“A probe was launched culminating in the arrest of the father who confessed to the crime,” Javed said.
Muhammad was arrested on Oct. 1 along with his 16-year-old son, who police believe helped his father murder Aniqa.
Aniqa was beaten to the point of unconsciousness, Geo.tv reports. At the insistence of his older daughter, the father agreed to take Aniqa to the hospital but she succumbed to her injuries en route and her body was dumped.
During the investigation, the father told police he was angered that Aniqa had not only cooked a roti that was irregular in shape but also burnt.
