A controversial ‘Shag A Ginger’ night in a Donegal nightclub has been cancelled after it sparked outrage with parents and a local priest.
The night has now been changed to ‘Kiss Me, I’m Ginger’, with organisers stating it was “tongue in cheek and not to be taken literally.”
Organisers of the event at Pulse night club in Letterkenny took to social media to promote the original ‘Shag A Ginger’ evening and offered free condoms as well as free entry for gingers before 12am
But when parents reacted in disgust at the planned event, Glenfinn Parish Priest contacted the club to tell them what he thought.
He said: “I got a phone call from a mother who said she was fuming and she went on to tell me about the page that was on Facebook.
“When she read the content to me I was shocked and disgusted.

“To verify that she was speaking the truth, I decided I would call the nightclub myself to see if this was true.”
Pulse management have now confirmed the original event has been changed to ‘Kiss Me, I’m Ginger’.
In a statement they said: “Given recent controversy surrounding a promotional poster advertising the event, the management have removed it and wish to make it clear it was not their intention to cause insult or offence to anyone.
“The promotion of such events on student nights are commonplace throughout the county and have occurred in the past without knowingly causing offence.”
They also confirmed the usual Swag Wednesday Student Night will take place under the name ‘Kiss Me, I’m Ginger’.
