LAKEWOOD, Colo. - A Lakewood mother has been arrested and charged with pimping her 12-year-old daughter to an Australian man in exchange for thousands of dollars, gifts and a trip to Hawaii, prosecutors say.

Julie Anne Greiner, 43, was arrested Tuesday by Lakewood police. She has been charged with human trafficking of a minor for sexual servitude; pimping of a child and sexual assault of a child/pattern of abuse -- all felonies, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

The 12-year-old daughter met the Australian man, Thomas Keski, 23, in an online chat in mid-2014, said Pam Russell, spokeswoman for District Attorney Peter Weir.

According to court records, the online relationship turned sexual through video chatting. Keski began to send money and gifts to the girl and her mother. Keski sent thousands of dollars, which was sometimes used to pay rent and other bills, as well as gifts including jewelry and electronics, court records state.

The Lakewood police investigation began on Jan. 25, 2015, when Julie Greiner called 911 and said she feared for safety because her 22-year-old son was upset with her.

Officers responded to the family's home and learned that the mother and her 12-year-old daughter had just returned from a trip to Hawaii with the girl's "adult boyfriend," according to the arrest affidavit.

Police interviewed Greiner's adult son who said "this all" began about six months earlier when he learned that his kid sister was having an online relationship with a boy named Thomas Keski, who was supposed to be 15 or 17. Keski was sending the girl "little gifts" like a necklace or money that he wired to Julie Greiner's bank account.

Then, in November 2014, the adult son said he saw his young sister having a video chat with a male and he looked "much older" than a teen boy.

The adult son confronted Julie Greiner, repeatedly asking if she knew Keski's age.

The Julie Greiner eventually told her 22-year-old son, "He's your age."

The adult son told his mother that she had to "put her foot down and say no" to the girl having a relationship with a man. The mother disagreed, saying she had "talked to Thomas and they were just friends helping each other out with a situation."

But Greiner's adult son kept investigating. The son told police he checked his young sister's cell phone and found "sex chat apps" in its search history.

One night, the adult son walked into his young sister's room and found her undressed and there was a man's face on her cell phone. He suspected this was Keski and they were having a video chat. The sister covered herself with a blanket and slammed her bedroom door on the older brother, the affidavit said.

The adult son woke up his mother and told her what happened, but "she just went back to sleep," the affidavit said.

The adult son tracked down Keski on his Facebook page and threatened to call police if Keski did not cut off all contact with his sister. Keski agreed.

According an arrest warrant affidavit, Keski, and his mother, came to Colorado where he met Julie Greiner and her child, before taking them on a trip to Hawaii. Keski and the child slept in the same bed, while Julie Grenier shared a room with Keski’s mother.

Julie Greiner's adult son told police that he thought the problem was over until his mother and sister left for Hawaii. Then the adult son said he learned that Keski was helping Julie Greiner with the family's financial troubles by wiring her $2,500 to pay the rent and utility bills.

The adult son told police that Keski had sent money to Julie Greiner to buy the little sister a wedding ring. On Christmas of 2014, Keski gave the girl an iPhone 6, a ring, a diamond necklace, and several book collections that she received by mail, according to the affidavit.

Police learned the man had also sent the girl a laptop and clothes and they collected receipts for some of the gifts from Julie Greiner.

When a police investigator told Julie Greiner "it looks like she pimped her daughter out to this guy for about $10,000, Julie said that she would never do that," according to the affidavit.

The mother told police that she had only seen Keski and her daughter hold hands and have their arms around each other in Hawaii -- she'd never seen them kiss.

Lakewood police have been working with the authorities in Australia and Keski has been arrested and charged there.

Julie Greiner appeared in Jefferson County Court Wednesday morning, where a judge advised her of the charges and set her bond at $50,000. She remained in the Jefferson County Detention Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Greiner's only prior arrest in Colorado was in 1990 for receiving stolen property in Denver. She pleaded guilty to felony theft in that case, according to court records.
