An optician denied offering ‘free rectal photography with every eye test’ today.
The internet got itself in a spin about this picture, which claimed to show a Vision Express branch in Clevedon offering the unusual service, with even BBC news presenter Jeremy Vine tweeting #youhadonejob.
But before you start laughing that they should have gone to Specsavers, apparently (tragically) the picture is too good to be true and it has been photoshopped from the original ‘retinal photography’.

A spokeswoman for the Optician told metro.co.uk: ‘We can confirm that the photograph of the front of the Vision Express store in Clevedon has been photoshopped. Retinal photography is available free of charge in all our stores and allows the optometrist to make a detailed assessment of the health of the eye.’
Well, retinal photography is pretty cool too we suppose – and would be a lot more appropriate for the mantelpiece.
