An Arizona woman was fired from her internship after posting a racist tweet that quickly went viral.
Erika Escalante caused outrage when she posted photos on Twitter of herself and a friend in a cotton field with the caption: “Our inner n----- came out today."
The 20-year-old quickly deleted the offensive post, but not before others began sharing a screenshot of her error.
"I deleted it, but it was much too late," Escalante told Fox 10 Phoenix.
"I apologize fully, I take full responsibility for what I have done. It's just not OK."
The Spanish linguistics major was apologetic to anyone she offended.
"I am sorry if you took this to heart, I am so sorry, I didn't mean it at all, it was a mistake, that's all I can say."
She explained it was intended as a joke, but health company Isagenix, where she was a paid intern, failed to see the funny side and sacked her within two hours.
"We were shocked when we saw, it's not what you would expect," said spokesman Kevin Snyder.
Isagenix, based in Chandler, Ariz., produces health and wellness products.
"When I looked at it, I immediately knew we had to make a swift action," added Snyder.

"It was unanimous, it is a complete conflict of who we are, and what we stand for as a company, so within roughly two hours we ended our employment with her. "
An embarrassed Escalante said she has learned her lesson and has now deleted her social media accounts.
“It was just a lack of my better judgment. I was not thinking at all," she told the TV station.
