KUSA - A sexting investigation involving hundreds of students at Canon City High School could extend to parents, according to new details released at a community meeting Thursday.
The school district says the investigation involves photos of hundreds of students, some as young as middle school. Some of the photos show students' faces.
Many of the students were using a ghost app to hide sexual images shared by classmates.
Ghost apps go by different names but appear to look like a standard calculator app on a phone. Investigators say when a certain set of numbers are entered a secret photo vault can be accessed.
Police want to know if students were coerced into taking these photos - and whether they ended up on parents' phones as well.
Search warrants are being obtained so investigators can look through hundreds of phones in Caņon City.
Officials were made aware of the photos on Nov. 2nd through student reports and anonymous tips.
