A 45-year-old man in Florida who pled guilty to impregnating an underage female neighbor in 2012 now faces another assault charge involving a different girl.
Steven P. Ballow, 45, was originally arrested in Knox County, Tennessee in Apr. 2013 after it was discovered that he had been having a sexual relationship since 2010 with a 12-year-old girl who lived in his neighborhood, according to the Tampa Tribune and ABC Action News.
An arrest report said that the two had a sexual relationship in Ballow's home regularly since that time. The girl became pregnant with Ballow's child in March 2012, and gave birth in December.
According to investigators, the girl claimed that she knew that having a relationship with Ballow was wrong and tried to end it, but Ballow repeatedly urged her to stay with him. She said that she tried to end it and break things off with Ballow, but he then threatened to commit suicide.
On Oct. 30, 2015, Ballow was found guilty of lewd and lascivious battery and aggravated stalking of a child under 16.
Ballow was first taken to Land O' Lakes Jail in Pasco County following his arrest on Apr. 24, 2013. ABC Action News reports that just three days later, on Apr. 27, another girl came forward to accuse Ballow of sexual abusing her. The then-11-year-old claimed that Ballow had visited her family in the town of Crystal River and raped her while he was there. Ballow was transferred to Citrus County Jail on Nov. 3, 2015 on a charge of sexual battery or injury to sexual organs on a victim under 12.
A neighbor who asked not to be identified said that they often saw children entering and exiting Ballow's home, but they never suspected anything malicious because they thought he was looking after nieces and nephews, according to ABC Action News.
"Very saddened for the victims and their families. This has to be really really tough," the neighbor said.
