A teacher in Georgia has been indicted with sex assault by a persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority, after ostensibly “making sexual contact” with an underage student at her school. The sentence carries up to 50 years in prison, contingent on the victim’s age.
On Nov.10, Jennifer McCall-Hubert, 37, was detained at Thomson High School and led out of the school, where she taught American civics and economics.
The same day Hubert was fired from her job by school officials, saying her activities “do not represent the professionalism required” of their teachers.
Hubert was taken to McDuffie County Jail, but released the following day after posting a $25,000 bail, reports WRDW.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing, and the outcome will be turned over to Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
A McDuffie County School System spokesperson said:
“On Nov. 10, the McDuffie County School System was notified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation of a complaint regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship between a Thomson High School teacher and a minor student. Immediately upon learning of this allegation, district and school officials provided their full cooperation to agents, empowering law enforcement to act swiftly to investigate this matter. The district is deeply saddened and shocked to report this matter. The safety of our students is – and always will be – our top priority, and a situation of this nature impacts us all. An educator’s role is a trusted position, and allegations such as these do not represent the professionalism required of us by the Professional Standards Commission’s Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators nor by the standards of the district. All employees are expected to serve as role models for students and to demonstrate exemplary conduct. As a result of this action, this employee is no longer affiliated with the McDuffie County School System. Due to the ongoing investigation and confidentiality laws, the McDuffie County School System will refrain from further comment at this time."
