Just a few days after 129 people died in a series of terror attacks in Paris, eight young men in Germany stormed a school yard carrying fake guns and claimed to be Isis militants.
As a joke.
On Monday afternoon, the men entered the playground in Gelsenkirchen and hurled abuse at a teacher before brandishing blank-firing guns, according to the school’s headmaster, Berti Oberholz.
The Local reports that the teacher, who had no idea that the gun was fake, quickly withdrew into the building and called police, who sent a large team of heavily-armed officers carrying MP5 submachine guns to the scene.
‘We don’t believe there was serious motivation behind the incident. No one was injured,’ a police spokesperson later said.
Mr Oberholz called the incident ‘disgusting horseplay, especially in the light of what has just happened in Paris.’
