In what was apparently an attempt to trick the authorities, a woman in New Jersey called 911 to report an assault so she could drink-drive home without fear of being stopped, police said.
Hayley Oates told authorities that a woman was being attacked at a northern New Jersey bar by an assailant who drove a blue truck and then terminated the emergency call.
Police who went to the scene found neither evidence of assault nor witnesses. Later, security camera footage showed no attack had taken place.
Officers claim that Oates called police to divert them from the route to her home so she wouldn’t be stopped for driving under the influence.
Oates posted to social media: ‘lmao.. 2 mins later the cop peals out.. silly piggies tricks r for u’ after she made the call.
Detectives said they were tipped off that a false report was made and arrested Oates for filing false reports to law enforcement and creating a false public alarm.
