Alberta's nipple exposure laws received some tweaking Monday.

In response to concerns from the province's burlesque community, the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission announced Monday that the nude entertainment policy governing bars, lounges and nightclubs has been changed.

"The exposure of female breasts is no longer considered 'nude'," reads a statement from the AGLC.

"Burlesque performers can perform in any licensed premise, subject to any municipal bylaws or rules that may be in effect, and as long as their performances don't meet the definition of nude."

While burlesque dancers were previously mandated to wear bras, the nude entertainment policy now defines "nude" as "the exposure of genitals (male or female) whether the person is fully or partially unclothed."

The AGLC said members of the burlesque community raised concerns that the previous policy did not align with the Canadian Human Rights Act. The AGLC has looked into the concerns and made the policy change effective Monday.

Licensee staff, excluding entertainers, are still prohibited from being nude or exposing their breasts while on duty, said the AGLC. Alberta's remaining nude entertainment policies are not affected.

ffs back in the day our strippers used to take everything off and insert things like fingers and pick up the odd bottle with no hands as they writhed around on the blanket during the all important fourth song...seems like this rule above is going backwards..

They are. Pecs are muscles. Boobs aren't.
