$16,644.00 for a family of (5). That's my new yearly rate.

$7476.00 is the portion I have to pay after my work pays what they contribute.

Anybody else getting raped?

As you know, Canadian healthcare is thought of as progressive. About 5K a year comes out of my wages for the whole fam damily. Barely $2,500 for my wife as she is part time.

But between us, my daughter's expensive braces were 100% covered. That was a worry.

I took this job (and so did my wife) because of the healthcare coverages and now that I'm 50 the chances of us needing it will only increase.

As a Finn, I don't have to worry about such.

You are still paying though

Earned gross income is taxed by a progressive state tax[2] (tax brackets 6.5% – 30%) and proportional communal taxes paid to municipalities (16.5% – 21.5%, average 19.17%) and parishes (1.00% – 2.00%, average 1.34%). The permanent residents of Finland have also to pay health insurance contributions, medical care fee (1.19%) and daily allowance contribution (0.82%).

I'm probably not the best one to answer this, but here goes....I should know this, so I spent 5 minutes and researched.

We pay 15% on the amount up to about 44K and 22% on the amount between 44K and 88K.

We have automatic stuff added to our taxation from multiple sources. - CPP (Canada Pension Plan), EI (Employment Insurance), and WC (Worker's Compensation).

I'm in the 22% bracket and when you factor in all the above, about 35% of my wages goes to taxes. This for me (not all Canadians) also includes the company's own pension plan, union dues and life insurance.

And when we buy goods, on the subject of tax, we pay 5% GST (Goods and Services) and 7% PST (Provincial).

Hal gets away a little easier here, and has just the GST.

Yes, yes we are. That is what the taxes are for! It is still quite a low total sum when you think about it.

I think i avewrage about 17% on income tax when its all said and done, but then we pay a 4-5 % state tax and then sales tax of roughly 5% on everything we buy.. After all the nickel and diming Id wager that we all pay the same taxes world wide..
