A 35-year-old middle school teacher in California has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old male student.
Mysti Moriah Lingenfelter of Fair Oaks turned herself into authorities on Dec. 8 on charges of lewd acts on a minor and oral copulation with an individual under 16 years of age, reports Daily Mail.
The single mother of two was first employed as a teacher at Foothill Ranch Middle School in 2005, and has been under scrutiny since May, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say Lingenfelter had been involved in an illicit relationship with one of her male students during the 2011-2012 school year, as reported by the Sacramento Bee via Daily Mail.
The teacher was placed on administrative leave in May and is currently out on $50,000 bail. Her arraignment is set for Dec. 15.
According to a criminal grievance, at least one of the sexual acts between Lingenfelter and the victim happened at the middle school, while another took place on a camping trip.
Tony Turnbul, of the Sacremento County Sheriff’s Office, told KCRA that detectives first heard of the accusations against Lingenfelter when someone came forward with evidence on behalf of the 14-year-old alleged victim.
The student no longer attends Foothill Ranch Middle School.
