J.K. Rowling has been forced to defend the casting of black actress Noma Dumezweni as Hermione in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.
The casting news for the three central roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione in the play were announced late Sunday night and a minority of people decided to play the race card.
In the Harry Potter films white actress Emma Watson played the muggle-born witch, and the illustrations of the books matched her skin colour, but as J.K. Rowling created the character, she certainly has the final say of what Hermione looks like, and was more than happy to remind people of that.

There you have it: ‘brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified.’
Noma is a celebrated actress who won the Olivier award for best performance in a supporting role for 2005’s A Raisin In The Sun, and, was praised for her role as Linda in Penny Skinner’s play Linda.
